Toyota has announced a recall for certain 2016-2017 model year Tacomas. It has been determined that its rear differentials may leak oil. If this issue is not rectified, it could cause damage to the rear differential, which in some cases could lead to the vehicle crashing if the differential seizes.

How many cars are affected?
It has been reported that around 228,000 Tundra vehicles are covered by this safety recall.

When will there be a remedy for this issue, and what is the remedy?
Toyota anticipates that any customer affected by this recall should be notified by mid-June. Affected customers will receive first-class notification and will be able to have this part replaced at no cost if there is a leak - this includes replacement of fasteners and replacement of the vehicle's rear differential carrier gasket. It may be necessary to replace the entire rear differential altogether if it is damaged. However, if the vehicle is not leaking, all fasteners on the vehicle will be tightened to safeguard against one in the future.
