Top 5 Spring Car Maintenance Tips

It’s finally that time of year! The time when the birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and the leaves are sprouting again on the trees. Spring is finally here and truthfully, there’s nothing more exciting. Bye bye winter and good riddance! So, now that spring has officially arrived, it’s time to make sure you vehicle is ready for the fun it’s about to get into now that the weather is turning warmer. Here are our top 5 tips for making sure your car is in tip top shape!

Give Your Car a Bath: Ugh. You’re car has seen better days, right? Thanks to both the grime of winter and the cooler temperatures making you not want to head to a car wash, your car probably needs a good washing. So, head out and wash as and wax your vehicle because truthful, it’s one of the most important things you should do now that winter is over. Allowing debris and grime to build up on your car can affect both the paint, as well as your vehicle’s finish. Plus, how happy do you feel once your car is bright and clean?

Give the Inside Some Love Too: We all live in our cars and thanks to the colder weather, you probably haven’t felt much like going through it to clean out all the junk that’s been collected over the past few months. (Where did that breakfast cereal come from and how long has it been here?!)  Vacuum all the grossness off your carpets, clear out and trash you’ve collected, take any winter apparel into the house, and dust off the dash and the console. Let’s be honest, you’ve been putting this off for way too long.

Give Your Tire Pressure a Check: During the winter months, you probably filled up your tires with air. But now that the outside temps are getting warmer again, your vehicle’s tire pressure can increase. This can be especially problematic if the pressure increases past your manufacturer specification (due to you adding extra pressure to make up for the colder winter air) and it can seriously affect your car's drivability and fuel economy.

Give Your Windshield Wipers an Inspection: Spring equals rain, right? Make sure to check to see if your windshield wiper blades are cracking or have any wear and replace them if you find those things. You should also replace them if you notice any streaking making it difficult to see out of your windshield when it does start raining. Terrible streaking is just asking for trouble. Oh also make sure that your windshield washer fluid is full for all the fun pollen and bugs that are going to be surfacing soon.

Give Your Alignment and Suspension a Check: One thing that happens on the roadways in the winter - potholes. You’ve likely driven over a few, as well as large rocks which has likely ruined your car’s alignment or damaged its suspension. Make sure to have both of these checked and that everything looks the way it should.
